The Serious North London Ghost walks

‘Thank you so much for the walk last night. We loved it! You struck a great balance between stories of local people and those of historical significance and interest!’ Alison, Stokey Ghost Walk attendee, November 2023

Join me for a selection of monthly ghost walks around Stoke Newington, Islington and Bloomsbury!
Click on the walk titles below for dates, information, and to book:

Stoke Newington Ghost Walk weaves around Stoke Newington Church Street from Stoke Newington Fire Station to Old St Mary’s burial ground

Angel Islington Ghost Walk starts at Islington Green near the Angel Station and ends at the iconic Canonbury Tower, about 5 minutes’ walk from Highbury & Islington Station

Newington Green Ghost Walk connects two Greens, the historic Newington Green and the modern Butterfield Green, via an ancient bridleway, and ends at The Shakespeare Pub

Uncanny Islington Walk starts at the Highbury Corner Magistrate’s Court on Holloway Road, and ends at the Hemingford Arms, Offord Road, Barnsbury

Each walk is linear, takes approx. 2 hours (give or take) and costs £15 + Eventbrite fee. There is a maximum of 15 people per walk. I walk in (almost) all weathers, so please come prepared! The terrain is generally flat, with a few uneven and dark surfaces, occasional steps and some roads to cross.

Hearing ghost stories in situ as dusk falls on a winter’s night or on a mellow summer’s eve is one of life’s pleasures. My walks remind us that the places where ghosts are most likely to be experienced are the ordinary homes and streets where we live, work and play. They offer vivid portals into past places and forgotten local lives, and raise compelling, age-old questions about how the past might continue to be ‘present’.

I have a particular fascination for the uncanny, having undertaken academic research on haunted houses, local lore and domestic heritage. I draw upon this research and my interests in psychogeography, local history, and the wider histories of ghost belief.

Above all, I just love to tell stories – stories passed down through time, told to me on my rambles, stories which have travelled or taken root in particular places. I look forward to sharing them with you! Dr Caron Lipman
