Hidden Stokey Walks
Join me for three monthly Hidden Stokey history walks exploring burials and bodies, underground places, objects lost, found or imagined, and legends, myths and hoaxes. We will encounter ancient things, lost burial grounds and tunnel legends, hunt for bodies out of place, animal bones, lost rivers and unearthed treasure. All in one small area of Stoke Newington!
Each monthly walk will focus on a different theme:
Stokey Legends, Myths and Hoaxes Walk; Stokey Burials and Bodies Walk; and Stokey Underground Objects Walk.

The walks start in Abney Park Cemetery before weaving around Church Street to St Mary’s Old Church and burial ground. Each walk takes approx. 2 hrs (give or take). The walks are generally flat with a few steps and roads to cross, and potentially (very) muddy dips into Abney Park Cemetery and Clissold Park.
‘I was enthralled by Caron’s walk and loved adding depth and historic colour to the Stoke Newington I have loved now for over 30 years. From royal connections to missing skulls, the walk was woven with fascinating details and dry wit that Caron deploys to create an entertaining tapestry of Stokey’s past. You’ll rarely spend a more interesting few hours!’ Mark, Bouverie Road, April 2025.
